Comfrey
Are you familiar with comfrey? It’s a large perennial plant that grows 24 to 48 inches high, with large leaves and purple flowers. It has medicinal uses, but I started growing it for my chickens because an old timer I knew told me that if I grew and dried enough of it, I could replace my store-bought chicken feed with it.
Unfortunately, I no longer have the chickens, but comfrey also has several other uses. Yesterday, I was using it for mulch around my roses. Comfrey has a very deep taproot that pulls minerals up from deep in the earth, so its leaves make a fantastic fertilizer and mulch.
I was feeling a little sad about cutting these majestic plants right at their prime with their beautiful flowers, but I started thinking about Jesus. He, too, was cut down in His prime. He, too, went deep into the earth. His sacrifice brought what I needed for life up out of the depths. What an amazing thing that is!
God tends to give me a lot of revelation in my garden. Where does God
talk to you?
