Your Life is More Spiritual Than Physical

Many years ago, I found myself obsessed with turning my entire backyard into gardens. For most of my life, I had never been into gardening, but now I found myself out there 8-10 hours a day, I just couldn’t stop. As I dug and weeded and created paths between the garden beds, I started to feel a bit guilty. I asked God, “Why am I so obsessed with this? Wouldn’t my time be better spent on the streets giving out tracts or going door-to-door praying for people?” And God answered me, “Don’t you know that your life is more spiritual than physical? What you are doing is prophetic acts. As you dig the new gardens, you are preparing the hearts of people. As you plant, you are planting the Word. As you weed, you are weeding out sin. As you create the paths, you are making ways for Me to reach souls.” From that day on, I saw my gardening as a prayer. I collected bricks from all over the world and prayed for everyone who came to mind as I worked.

 

Your work can and should be a prayer. Noah built the ark in response to God’s prompting. Joseph worshipped God as he served as a slave and a prisoner. Some of the most beautiful psalms came out of the time David spent as a shepherd. Are you a janitor? A teacher? A truck driver? A construction worker? A factory worker? A salesperson? An IT person? A counselor? A manager? A CEO? … Ask God how is your life more spiritual than physical and make your work a prayer. He will show you how.

  Now, before you label me a heretic, hear me out. It just hit me that Jesus didn’t have the strength to go to the cross. He was so physically weak from the beating He took that He was unable to carry His cross from Jerusalem to Golgotha. He could have just laid down and died right there, but He needed to get to that cross, so they grabbed a seemingly inconsequential bystander, Simon.   [Mat 27:32 KJV] 32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross. But was he really? I looked up the meanings of the names Simon and Cyrene. Simon means “heard,” and Cyrene means “supremacy of the bridle.” A bridle is how one controls a powerful animal. A Donkey and Her Colt

This morning, I was reading in Matthew 21 about how Jesus told His disciples to go untie a donkey and her colt and bring them to Him before He entered Jerusalem. Then He rode them to Jerusalem. This scenario brought up a lot of questions. Wouldn’t it be hard on the baby donkey for a full-grown man to sit on it? (The above picture is how I envisioned this.) How old is a donkey considered a colt for? Why was the mother brought along? To bring comfort to the colt? How did Jesus ride both the mother and her colt? Did he sit on the mother and put his feet on the colt? Maybe straddled both animals? The answers belie just how ignorant I am about donkeys! Jesus was not riding a baby donkey. A colt is a male donkey between the ages of 2 and 4. Generally, by the age of 4 or 5, a donkey is strong enough to bear weight on its back. Life Will Crush You

  Because we live in a fallen world, life will crush you. It’s a guaranteed. You may come out of the womb looking like a smooth uncrumpled piece of fresh paper, but you won’t stay that way. Maybe you will become sick or injured. Perhaps you will experience a divorce or the betrayal of a best friend. Then again, you might be the victim of abuse or robbery. Someone may have lied to you, or about you. These things come from outside, but we also do things to ourselves. We fall into addiction, wrong patterns of thinking, or sins like greed and lust. We wind up crumpled into a ball that seems only good for the trash can, BUT GOD! God loves us so much and is so amazing that He can and will take the crumpled mess of our lives and make something amazingly beautiful out of it if we will let Him. Try this. Take a piece of paper and crumple it. Smooth it out. Go over each crease with a dark pen. Then color the places the lines outline with different colors. You will wind up with a beautifu...
